what is the basic difference between a plan and a package.

just to the basic difference between a plan and a package?does the plan or package comes into the picture before precompiling stage of a DB2-cobol program or it comes during the bind process of DB2-cobol program?

They are only considered during the bind.

the pre-compiler stage is a non-db2 function -
that is: db2 does not have to be running to pre-compile.

But, db2 must be running to BIND.
