Folks,
Is there a way that in the software tool SAR, the REPORTS stored therein can be downloaded to a CD-ROM.
If not then alternatively is it possible to download any report onto a CD-ROM. Does AWS play a role in this.??
Any help appreciated.
Cheers...
Yogi
My grey matter is not what it used to be, but here is what I can recollect:
SAR - Sysout Archival Retrieval.
-- Original product of Goal Systems Inc (circa 1988+)?
-- Legent acquired Goal Systems, renamed product (1994+)?
-- CAI Computer Associates Int. acquired Legent (1997+)? - Just like almost everything else!
SAR - a software product - It is used for storing Sysouts (or Reports) online in a compressed proprietary database. It archives older reports to tape. It saves mucho paper (hence a paper reduction tool).
In its latest reincarnation (product renamed), it is now called CA-VIEW and has some features that cost $ as options.
Anyway, there is a companion product called PC-SAR. This will let you download reports to a PC.
I have written in-house Rexx/JCL that will extract (from tapes) these reports and zip them. I then FTP them to my PC and can be unzipped and burned to CDs. It requires some 3390?s disk space to accomplish these tasks. CA also has a product that will let you extract report directly off of tape. Again it costs $$?s.
The reports can be viewed using a Windows program called ?V - The file Viewer?.

Thanks Pelad. We are in the process of finding an alternative solution. Problem in big organizations is getting things done..Lot of security and admin procedures hamper decisions...Danke! Yogesh
Pelad. Can I get more information on the REXX/JCL you had to create to extract from tape?
Right now, I am emailing the reports one at a time to myself and saving them to the server. And then I delete them.
Thanks for your time
