Difference between IMS and DLI

Hi Srishar,

DL/I - Data Language/I
In DB2, The queries you requested in your application program are directly retrive dat from the database.But in IMS, the calls issued are execute through DL/I,i.e.,call first issued to DL/I,then DL/I retrive the database into its area which neede to execute that call.

In any suggesions/mistakes, please correct me.

Hi,

DL/I is associated with IMS unlike DB2. Here we use the DL/I call alongwith the other parameters such as the PCB-Mask, Seg I-O, SSAs alongiwth the DL/I functions to retrive the CBLTDLI calls.

Data Language I is not a programming language. It is a set of IMS program modules that exist external to the application program. It allows application program to retrieve segment of the data from the DB sequentially or directly.
