I use either of the following to delete newly created datasets,
1)CA11RM$
2)VOLMANTS
Is there any other way in which we can delete newly created datasets. |

Hi,
you can use IDCAMS, IEHPROGM, IEFBR14, ISPF 3.4 (use D or DELETE) just to mention a few if that's what you meant by deleting newly created datasets.

Hello,

I don't understand why there is a need to delete these Why were they created?
More often, there is a need to delete old, unused datasets. . .
What am i missing? |

The TS is talking ( inference from the prograam names)
about a way of avoiding jcl errors...
when resubmitting jobs with datasets disp=new....
there are utilities ( I use Gilbert Saint Flour CLEANUP )
which executed as the first step, scan the job for dataset with disp=new and delete them
still the question is not clear,
why in heaven would somebody with a working thing look for something else
furthermore with such a bad wording [/b] |

| I usually start my jobs with an IEFBR14 step to delete files. |

Hi,
I would not use IEFBR14 to delete datasets, if the datasets are migrated they will be recalled before they are deleted, also the datasets may not exist which will result in a JCL error unless extra parameters are added such as space and unit, IDCAMS is much better, if the dataset is migrated it will issue a HDELETE.

| Yep, IDCAMS rules OK - deals with missing, migrated, tape and DASD in one go. |
