Ditto?
Redefine it as a "U" file and display it with HEX ON?

Anuj,

Check the DISPLAY operator of ICETOOL.

From the manual:

Quote:
DISPLAY also has two special ON fields you can use:

ON(VLEN) can be used for variable length record data sets to print the length of each record.

Which is nothing but the contents of RDW.

RDW consists of 4 bytes out of which

first 2 bytes - Length of the record
3-4 bytes - Hexadecimal Zeroes

HTH

DITTO is a very old IBM utility program that was how many of us "hex-dumped" records, copied files, did rather dangerous disk "patching - DRL (disp record load) if i remember)" and many, many other things.

DITTO was/is an acronym for "Data Interfile Transfer, Testing, and Operations" Utility.

Hi Dick,

I heard about DITTO in conjunction with VSAM, however never used it. I couldn't realized some/any connection of 'it' with RDW of VB files, Thanks.

Hi Anuj,

DITTO is much older than vsam icon_smile.gif

One of the DITTO commands was a "disk dump" that hex dumped physical blocks rather than logical records. This would let one see both the block descriptor as well as the record descriptor.
