How to fetch the last record in VSAM file without any sequential manner?After that I want to insert a record?

note: I don't know how many records in VSAM file?

Bandi....What do umean by VSAM file? Is it KSDS,ESDS or RRDS. Please be clear.

assuming the file is KSDS

as we know the records can be accessed randomly .
move the key value into keyfield
chek if end of file if it is it is the last record.
In ksds u really cannot tell whether the record can be stored in the last position as the records are organized by the unique key field.I think that could be possible in esds.

if anything wrong please feel free to coment.

Yes.. You are right... You can append records in ESDS.. But am nt sure with KSDS..

Experts...Please tell your views...

ONE THING YOU CAN DO YOU WANT INSERT RECORD AT END MEANS

YOU CAN OPEN THAT FILE IN EXTEND MODE

OR IF IT IS KSDS VIJAYAMADHURI SAY THE PROCEDURE YOU CAN FALLOW THAT MANNER.
