what is meant by line=(1,cancel) in the job satatement?

Line parameter is the optional parameter coded in JOB statement which will tell how may lines (in K-1000's) to be printed in job's sysout.

LINES = {xxxx, CANCEL/DUMP/WARNING}

second one will specify the action to be taken after mx limit attained mentioned by u in 'xxxx'.

Forgot to answer your IInd Query..

Normally we do exception handling statements in PGMs to take care of file empty/end of file conditions.

if its nt done PGM fialed with MAXCC12...I am nt sure hv to check:(
