Hello,
We have a part of the forum for "PC Tech Help & IT News".
This might be a place to start. If there is sufficient activity, a separate part of the forum might be in order. For the most part, the forum covers mainframe topics rather than deskcop topics. . .
As more work is multi- or cross-platform, we may see some expansion. . . |

Hi,
I use the very tool mentioned at the top of this discussion. It is called File-AID/Client Server. It gives me pretty much everything I use on the mainframe but also allows me access to non mainframe files and databases (e.g. oracle, sybase, UDB, etc.)
We primarily use it to generate data and browse/edit our test data. It also links to the mainframe so we can easily download the test data generated on the mainframe. |

Sam: Are you able to relate the license/fee structure for this product? Note I'm not necessarily asking for details; ballpark numbers would be fine.... |

The answer to the original question is yes....there is a version of Fileaid for the PC and it is called Fileaid/CS (Client Server) Here are details from the manual...
File-AID/CS is a data management tool designed to help developers become more efficient when managing and preparing data for testing. With File-AID/CS, developers can easily copy, convert, transform, compare, and edit data, validate test data results, and restore test data to its baseline state. File-AID/CS provides an interface similar to Windows Explorer for accessing many of the major databases and file types across Windows 2003, XP, and 2000 clients and servers. Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, and DB2 Universal Database (UDB) are a few of the major databases you can access using File-AID/CS. In addition, File-AID/CS supports a wide range of other data types including mainframe data and XML.
File-AID/CS Enterprise Edition is an optional addition to File-AID/CS that provides access modules enabling a developer to access mainframe data on MVS. When coupled with File-AID/CS, File-AID/CS Enterprise Edition enables a developer to move test data between mainframe and distributed environments. File-AID/CS Enterprise Edition supports the major MVS data types (VSAM, QSAM, IMS, and DB2 UDB z/OS). It also supports File-AID/RDX extract files by moving related DB2 data types to a distributed database. Refer to the File-AID/CS Installation Guide for information on installing this option. |
