how to open a file to update the records?

Hi,

Can any one help me, how to open a file in PL/I program to read and write at the same time?

and is there any option like UPDATE mode in COBOL to modify the file recordss?

Neither in PL/I nor in any other language your can read and write AT THE SAME TIME

You probably mean input-output or update mode. And yes someone can help you; you yourself and the manual. At this site there's a manual (see toplever menue) which explains it all. If you have any problems after reading the manual (search for 'OPEN FILE') get back to us.
