Difference b/w F & FB and V & VB

While filling-up the 3.2 option menu for allocating a dataset,
We code FB as the Record Format. Why not F.
1) What is the difference by F & FB?
2) What is the difference by V & VB?

B means Blocked. if it's FB then you can have a Physical record which contains two or more logical records.

V means Variable VB means VARIABLE BLOCKED.

What a question? Where you have studied mainframe?

Hi,
F - All blocks and all logical records are fixed in size.
V - Blocks as well as logical records are of variable size. The first 4 bytes of each block (and logical record) describes its length.
B ? One or more logical records reside in each block. B cannot be coded alone. It is used in conjunction with F or V. For example FB or VB.
