That would be system dependent. Stay busy and you won't be logged off as inactive.

Hello,

Is there some reason you should remain logged on when you are not using the system?

If there is a valid reason, have your manager talk with the security or support people and have your timeout changed. Most places do not feel there is a compelling reason to allow an idle session to "just sit there" indefinitely.

it is sorta like giving security to people who don't realize they need the protection.

if your session always stays active, that mean someone else can use your session when you leave your desk.

That's what the three finger salute is for...
Those <blank> security people.......
I generally go to the SDSF ST screen and enter &120, which redisplays the screen every 120 seconds.....it taks a couple of PA1s or PA2s (mine is two shift-escapes) to stop it.....

Hi,

I've got a similar requirement but bit strange. One of the client is asking, 'why the session is expired after these many seconds/minute, where it's defined, justify'...grin..!

Can anyone here please direct me to find some solutions, I've searched the Forum but in vain, may be I didn't use right 'key-words'.

CG,

I tried your suggestion (&120), but didn't get any result. I write '&120' on the 'command prompt' & pressed enter, is it what you have suggested or I've done something wrong, please suggest.

I think it is proper to want to keep TSO from logging you off.

I may be positioned on up to 8 TSO screens, and if I'm called away (physically or to another application, or just on the phone) on another task, repositioning myself will be very time consuming.

By preventing the logoff using the &120 (refresh every 120 seconds) on the ST screen, I hold my place.

I can lock my terminal for security reasons via ctl-alt-del, so that's taken care of.

If this hogs resources others need at my installation, then I do have a responsibility not to do this when unnecessary, but that should go without saying in any professional organization.

I don't know, when I type it...
Code:
  Display  Filter  View  Print  Options
---------------------------------------
SDSF OUTPUT DISPLAY CICSPNAT STC08132
COMMAND INPUT ===> &120
and hit enter, this is what I see...
Code:
COMMAND INPUT ===> **** AUTO UPDATE - 120 SECONDS ****

Hello,

I believe that the requirement to be in sdsf has not been completely understood. It won't work from just anywhere in tso/ispf.

I'm not sure what you mean Jack.

I set up Shift-F6 = &123, but I think you're talking about something else.

Sorry Phil,

Just a joke that bombed.

Here's the PF keys I use:
Code:
 *********************************************************************
***************  USE TO FIRE UP 8 ISPF WINDOWS AFTER    *************
***************  ISPF STARTUP                           *************
*********************************************************************
Prep - on cmd line enter "keylist off", then enter 0
       Click on "Identifier"; press enter; select 3 (screen name)
       Then enter "keys" on cmd line and cut & paste lines below into
       KEYS slots. Use keys 13 thru 16.  C&P the next 2 into PF17&18
*********************************************************************
SCRNAME SDSF1 PERM;SPLIT NEW;SCRNAME COMPILE PERM
SPLIT NEW;SCRNAME JOBJCL PERM;SPLIT NEW;SCRNAME PGMSRC PERM;
SPLIT NEW;SCRNAME CPYBKS PERM;SPLIT NEW;SCRNAME MISC1 PERM
SPLIT NEW;SCRNAME MISC2 PERM;SPLIT NEW;SCRNAME MISC3 PERM;;;
*********************************************************************
***************        USE TO FIRE UP A NEW WINDOW      *************
*********************************************************************
SPLIT NEW;SCRNAME
*********************************************************************
***************      USE TO LIST ALL ACTIVE WINDOWS     *************
*********************************************************************
SWAP LIST

When you've got the keys set up exit SPF gracefully (logoff, etc.). Then come back in and hit PF keys 13 thru 16.

Hi,

Simple way to prevent your session from logging off:

Put Paper weight or stick tape, on any of the Arrow key and leave icon_lol.gif .

Till the time the key is getting pressed, the session won't logoff.

Well, enough discussion after I've started this thread..but only single suggestion & that's again not meeting my requirement..it disappionts me. icon_cry.gif

Quote:

By the way instead of this crap
Quote:

There are some better solutions to this. Not to allow the session being logged off, I use following macro under ISPF:
Code:
:loop
wait 3000 sec
[enter]
goto loop

This is a simple macro written by me (you know copy-righted mateial icon_smile.gif )
it makes the session feel as if "enter" key is pressed after every 3000 seconds & this'll save your tapes as well.

Bottom line is this, I know how to prevent my session being logged-off but where in the system it's written that session should be logged-off if left idle for so many seconds?

STRONG DISAGREEMENT ON THE WHOLE THREAD...

IF A SITE HAS THE POLICY OF LOGGING OFF A TERMINAL SESSION AFTER AN INACTIVITY PERIOD
THE ETHICS WOULD DICTATE NOT TO GIVE IN A FORUM ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO VIOLATE THE RULES

AND ... YES I AM SHOUTING
