I have seen assemblers working that way.

But haven't tried DFSORT document.

There are exit points in SORT where you can call a program. Look at the DFSORT Application Programming guide.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. If you mean "Can I call a DFSORT exit written in COBOL", then the answer is that you can call a DFSORT E15 or E35 exit written in COBOL. For details, see:

Specifically, 4.10 etc.

If you mean something else, please explain what you mean more clearly.
