All,
I'm trying to ftp more than 6000 PS files with each PS file is 65535 tracks(3GB) in Windows.
Is there any way I can zip the file during the ftp process and send the file to windows shared path.
So that I can unzip the file in windows.
Please share your thoughts on how to proceed on this. |

You can zip the files prior to the transmission if you have the PKZIP software, or something compatible, available. We can't answer that question for you. |

You seem to be saying you have 6,000 datasets each 3GB in size. Is that so? |

6000*3=18,000 GB - so - as of now, where do yo keep them? With this rank question, I won't mind asking this... |

It seems a remarkable coincidence to get 6,000 datasets to be one disk pack big. I hope you have optimal blocking.
I can see you wouldn't want to compress them all at once. I think compress, ftp, delete, move on to the next. With 6,000 to deal with, you should consider some automatic controls over the process. Too easy to miss one dataset. Heck, you could miss 60 and it would be difficult to check for on the output logs.
You have 18TB in the plan on the PC Network? What transmission rates are you looking at? Not a daily task, I assume.
Are you going to duplicate the data or will you suddenly have 6,000 disk packs free? |
